Frequently asked questions
What does no-vig mean?
A book's prices add up to more than 100 percent; the extra is its margin (the vig). Removing it gives the fair probability of each outcome and the fair price that goes with it.
Can I use three outcomes?
Yes. Fill in the draw price for a three-way market such as soccer's full-time result.
Which method should I pick?
Multiplicative is the common default. Power and Shin take more of the margin off long shots, which fits markets where books shade the underdog. Additive takes the same slice off every outcome and suits close two-way markets.
Why do the methods disagree?
They make different assumptions about where the book put its margin. On a close two-way market they barely differ; on a heavy favourite against a long shot the gap can be several points.
